Voice skills for controlling smart objects
Amazon’s Echo / Echo Dot opened the door to the customer’s living room and paved the way for the next step towards the smart home. But Alexa can do more than fill calendars and play music. To demonstrate this, we equipped a refrigerator with sensors that continuously measure relevant values that are stored and evaluated. In parallel, a skill was developed that can transmit important data such as temperature and fill level to Alexa. If required, this information can be queried by voice or optionally via GUI. The system is modular and can be expanded with new sensors and interfaces, for example to initiate an automatic reorder when a critical fill level is reached. The project was initiated and implemented within a very short time thanks to an agile procedure and MVP approach.
